GED Preparation

Effective January 1st, 2022, the NYS Education Department (NYSED) has selected the General Educational Test (GED® Test) to replace the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC™ Test) as the primary pathway to a New York State High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma (formerly known as GED).

  • We will continue to accept any regents' subjects in which the student has scored a 65 or higher. This will be used to supplement one of the subject tests.

  • Please note, all passing TASC scores received from 2014-2021 will continue to be applicable towards the HSE requirements.

Any combination below will grant you an HSE Diploma.

  • Former TASC scores

  • Regents scores 65 and over

  • GED scores

  • Regents waivers (earned during COVID-19 pandemic)

The GED Exam is offered in English and Spanish, via pencil-paper or computer-based exam.

There are four test subjects (content areas) on the GED Test:

  • Language Arts/ Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA) (formerly Reading and Writing on TASC exam)

  • Social Studies

  • Science

  • Mathematical Reasoning

Scoring (in any test subject)

  • 100-144: Scholar has not met the requirement to pass test subject.

  • 145: GED® Passing score for each test subject.

  • 165-174: GED® College Ready Score. We strive to obtain this score for all our scholars. This means our scholar will not have to take any placement exams when entering College.

  • 175-200: GED® College Ready + Credit. This means our scholar has proven skills that could qualify for up to 10 college credit hours.
